At the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chapter member volunteers donate many hours working on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. They donate their time working wherever needed.
The variety of tasks assigned is indeed varied- driving passenger vans, working in the Volunteer Office in varied support tasks, visiting with specific patients as assigned by VA staff to simply listen to and to let these Veterans know they are not forgotten.
Since 1996 TLSC has had an ongoing program, the Gerry Weber Sock Fund, whose purpose is to raise funds to purchase socks and caps to be given to patients in the hospital. These socks are distributed at Christmas time and three other times during the year by TLSC members. These socks and caps are greatly appreciated by the patients as many of them have absolutely nothing.
